Erdi has been involved in marine conservation for 20 years, beginning as a Reef Check Officer for WWF-Indonesia, then joining conservation NGOs such as Conservation International Indonesia and Coral Triangle Center, as well as participating in FAO's Indonesian fisheries program. He founded Cetasi (cetasindonesia.org) with his colleagues to support marine mammal (whales, dolphins, and dugong) conservation; Tanah Air Beta (tanahairbeta.org), a platform for a shared learning exchange and experiencing practical solutions for conservation and development; and Bionesia (bionesia.org), to promote and protect Indonesian biodiversity through research and capacity building. He is currently in charge of ensuring that science is in place for conservation implementation, as well as monitoring, evaluation, and learning for WWF-Indonesia’s Marine and Fisheries Program. He graduated from Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in Indonesia with a bachelor's degree in marine science, and James Cook University (JCU) in Australia with a master's degree in development practice.
